KEY ACCOUNT MANAGER

Business Unit: Shanur, Sales Department
Geographic Location: JHB, Gauteng

Main Purpose of Job

  • Create and manage relationships with key customers viz. Corporate, wholesaler and buying groups
  • Maintain and grow these accounts to ensure long-term business success
Key Performance Area (Core essential responsibilities-outputs of position):
  • Client Relationship Management: Cultivate and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key clients. Act as the primary point of contact for these clients, understanding their needs
  • Account Planning: Develop strategic account plans that outline objectives, strategies, and tactics for achieving growth and retention targets.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align account plans with overall business goals.
  • Business Development: Identify opportunities to expand business with existing and new key accounts by negotiating addition of products onto customer formularies. Proactively seek out new business opportunities within key accounts.
  • Customer Service: Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by addressing issues and concerns promptly and effectively. Serve as an advocate for clients within the organization to ensure their needs are met.
  • Stock management and merchandising: Analyse sales data and market trends to forecast correct stock holding at wholesalers and track stock movement. Ensure stock is correctly merchandised at store level
  • Negotiation and Contract Management: Negotiate contract terms and pricing agreements with key clients. Ensure contracts are accurately documented and executed, and that both parties adhere to their obligations.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including sales, marketing, and operations, to coordinate efforts and deliver integrated solutions to key accounts.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate potential risks to key account relationships, such as competitive threats, changes in market conditions, or shifts in client priorities
Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as pharmaceutical sciences, life sciences, or business administration.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in key account management, preferably in a similar industry.

  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with customers, team members, and senior management.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret sales data and market trends to make informed decisions.
  • Negotiation Skills: Proficient in negotiation techniques and strategies to secure favorable deals with customers and partners.
  • Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing market conditions and business priorities, and to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite sales analysis and reporting.

General working conditions (e.g. shift work, driver’s license, specific tools, special clothing, environmental requirements, etc.):

  • May be required to work overtime
  • Driver’s license and own motor vehicle

Travel: 

  • The role holder will travel 90% of their time on a mixture of planned and ad-hoc business travel. May be required to travel to national meetings where necessary
